Abdul Jaleel Al Khalifa, Executive
Director and Founding Member
Mr. Al Khalifa is the CEO of Dragon Oil and the 2007 President of the International Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). After completing more than twenty-two years with Saudi Aramco, in May 2008 he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dragon Oil, a publicly listed company on the London and Irish Stock Exchanges which operates in Turkmenistan and had exploration interests in Yemen. In the past, he served as a board member of SPE and several E&P companies and a member of the advisory board of the Earth Science school at Stanford University and the Petroleum Engineering school at King Saud and King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals. He holds a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in California, USA. Al Khalifa's interests span petroleum engineering, leadership and human resources. He has been a keynote speaker on global mission and People First culture in many international forums.
Based in Dubai, UAE, Mrs. Nunan is a Socioeconomics Advisor for ExxonMobil's projects in the Middle East. Previously she served as a political and security advisor for Chevron in Baghdad, Iraq. Prior to her career in the oil and gas sector, she was a Foreign Service Officer for the United States Department of State in the Middle East and Central Asia. She has also has experience as a Senior Project Manager for American Airlines and a Project Engineer for a global construction management company. She has traveled to or lived in over 100 countries and completed community development projects in many global locations. She holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Norwich University and an MBA in International Business from the University of Massachusetts. She is currently completing her Masters in International Relations and Conflict Resolution focusing on the role of Multi-National Corporations in global development.
Mr. Brown is a partner with the law firm of Ackerman Legal, PLLC with offices in Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia, USA. Mr. Brown's representation focuses on civil litigation, real estate and franchise law. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and South Texas College of Law. Mr. Brown is admitted to practice in Texas, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Koerner was born and raised in Oklahoma, was graduated by the University of Tulsa in Petroleum Engineering in 1958 and later earned a M.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 1968. He was President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE) in 1995 and President of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) in 1998. He retired from Texaco Exploration Inc. in 1996. He is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Mr. Koerner is active in community affairs having served several Boards as the Samaritan Institute and their Foundation, Colorado Ethics in Business Alliance and has written several published papers on business ethics, U. Tulsa Petroleum Engineering Industry Advisory Board, U. Tulsa National Alumni Board, SPE Foundation, Industry's Humanitarian Support Alliance NGO (IHSAN), and Renewed Hope Charitable Foundation. He is presently engaged in a jail ministry at the Douglas County jail. He was inducted into the University of Tulsa Engineering and Applied Sciences Hall of Fame in 1995, the Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award in 2004 sponsored by the Denver Foundation and the 2005 ChevronTexaco Public Service Award. He was also awarded Honorary Membership (highest award) by SPE and AIME in 2007. He and wife MaryAnn reside in Castle Rock, CO, have three grown sons and five grandchildren.
Mr. Apelian is Howmet Professor of Engineering and Director of the Metal Processing Institute at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). MPI is an industry-University alliance dedicated to materials processing with over 90 corporate partners. He joined WPI in 1990 as the Institute's provost. He is credited with pioneering work in various areas of materials and metals processing. During the last decade, he has worked on sustainable development issues, and particularly, resource recovery and recycling. Apelian is the recipient of many distinguished honors and awards; he has over 500 publications to his credit, and serves on several technical and corporate boards. During 2008/2009 he served as President of TMS. Prof. Apelian is a Fellow of TMS, ASM, and APMI; he is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and the Armenian Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Al-Zalzalah is Chairman of the Board of Directors of KGL Petroleum Corporation in Kuwait. He is also an Associate Professor of Statistics and Mathematics in the Faculty of Administrative Sciences at Kuwait University. He served previously as the Minister of Trade and Industry in the government of the State of Kuwait and Chairman of the Financial and Economic Committee in Kuwait's Parliament. Al-Zalzalah has held many academic positions at Kuwait University, including Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Research, and Graduate Studies, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, and Chairman of the Quantitative Methods and Information Systems in the Faculty of Administrative Sciences. He holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of Colorado, a Master's from the University of Georgia, and a Bachelors in Computer Science and Mathematical Statistics from Kuwait University.
Mr. Etkind is a Sr. Reservoir Engineer working for Shell E&P Company in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico Greater Mars Basin. He works in New Orleans, Louisiana and holds a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University. He has diverse experience across the upstream E&P sector onshore, in the arctic, and deepwater offshore. Etkind recently finished a three-year term on the Society of Petroleum Engineers International Board of Directors where he chaired the Board Committee on Print and Electronic Media. He also leads an advisory committee to the SPE Board covering issues related to online communities and collaboration. Etkind takes an active role in philanthropy as evidenced by his role on the Board of the International NGO, IHSAN, which is devoted to improving access to clean drinking water, sanitation and education in the developing world. In recognition of his efforts both within the petroleum industry and in local and international communities, Etkind was awarded the 2004 SPE International Young Member Outstanding service award and the 2010 American Petroleum Institute Meritorious Service Award.
Dr. William Glamore is an expert in water science and water engineering and a Senior Research Fellow at the Water Research Laboratory, University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.William is involved with all aspects of water engineering/science and is well recognised throughout the Australasian Region, having received several awards including a prestigious Churchill Fellowship and the Da Paepe – Willems Award. He is recognized by the United Nations as an expert in hydrodynamics and hydrology, having recently worked on regional capacity building projects in Jakarta, Indonesia for the IAEA. In addition, William sits on several water related panels and committees including the IUCN's Commission on Ecosystem Management. He has currently or has previously been involved in water related projects in Indonesia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Australia and Singapore.
